Health Benefits to Drinking Lemon Water

Having a warm (room temperature or slightly warmer) glass of lemon water upon rising is good for detoxing the liver. The liver can make more enzymes out of fresh lemon juice than any other food element. Be careful not to have the water too hot. Too much heat will destroy the vitamin C in the lemon juice. It is best to use all the juice from 1 lemon. If you do less, store the remaining lemon in a air-tight container. After a short period of time the vitamin C in a cut open piece of citrus will be destroyed without any change in temperature. I usually have the other half in my water throughout the day. When life gives you a lemon, squeeze it, mix it with water and enjoy!

Of all the water-soluble vitamins, vitamin C is the most unstable and easily destroyed vitamin. It is highly soluble in water and gets easily destroyed by oxygen, alkalis and high temperatures. Exposure to oxygen causes the destruction of vitamin C.

For extra cleansing and to suppress appetite add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and/or a dash of cayenne pepper to the beverage. If you need a sweetener you may want to add stevia. You can also add honey, although it is not recommended for P2 or for every day consumption if you are on P3/P4.

People sometimes confuse thirst with hunger so the next time you think you are hungry, try drinking a cup of Yerba Mate tea or a big glass of water and some lemon. Dr. Simeons states we can have 1 lemon a day while on the protocol. A lemon can improve digestion and increase your metabolism.

I used to follow an ayurvedic diet years and years ago under doctor supervision and he told me the same thing too. And it works!
