Sprouted Grain Bread

Carol’s Facebook Quick Tips #34

Ezekiel Bread

We get asked everyday about Ezekiel or Julian bread products and when to introduce them.  I waited about a week into phase 3 before using any Ezekiel bread, and recommend starting with a small amount and see how your body responds. It has been the best addition to my kitchen in 2010.  It is the healthiest option for bread products for your whole family.

Sprouted breads are a great way to eat breads and know they are good for you! The process is such that grains are soaked in water and sprouted rather than breads baked from grains that were ground into flour. The sprouting process releases vital nutrients found in whole grains. and are high in protein and vitamins. The sprouting creates a natural change that makes the protein and carbs easier for us to digest. Our bodies digest these breads more like a vegetable!

Hi Andrea, it’s the process. It’s sprouted and therefore is not a starch. I would introduce 1 slice after the first week of p3 and take it slowly.

Are you familiar with the Sprouts brand of sprouted bread? The chain grocery store carries “sprouted” bread (it’s typically right next to the Ezekiel bread) but not sure if I’d be getting the same type of product all the way around. Any experience with this brand or what I should be checking for in ingredients?

make sure all ingredients are sprouted. Even Ezekiel has some flavors that are not all sprouted. That is the key before each ingredient.
