Do a Mental Detox!
We have spent years sharing tips about how to physically detox our bodies, but we need to consider that we may be mentally toxic, too.
Start a gratitude journal and write down some things you are thankful for every day. You can grab a mason jar and fill out little pieces of paper for thankful notes to yourself, then pull them out when you’re feeling crappy and cheer yourself up!
Spend time with Jesus. When we spend time in the Word, our minds will better focus on the promises than the problems. Open up your Bible, a devotional, or YouVersion app and soak up some truth this week.
Challenge yourself to go 7 days without complaining. It is harder than it sounds! !
Watch your company! Allowing toxic people in our lives can sap our energy level and oftentimes will negatively impact our self-esteem. We can also pick up on harmful habits which will fuel our character – even if we don’t realize it. We become like the 5 people we spend the most time with; are you hanging with positive peeps or people that bring you down?
Our INFLUENCES affect our THINKING which affects how we FEEL. How we FEEL affects the DECISIONS we make which leads to our ACTIONS. ACTIONS become HABITS which become our CHARACTER, and finally, bring us to our DESTINATION in life.
If you don’t like where you are right now, trace it back, and make some changes! The best analogy I have found to use with my kids is that if you are standing on a chair, it is much easier for a friend to pull you down from the chair than for you to pull them up onto the chair. It is simple physics – and it applies elsewhere, as well. While you’re detoxing and throughout your life, use caution with the people you let into your inner circle. We all deserve a safe, comfortable, and happy space of our own.
