Carob Powder instead of Cocoa
Carol’s Quick Tips #39
Many of our Chocolate Delight Recipes you will notice we have starting substituting Carob Powder. The Carob Powder is much healthier for you and makes the chocolate delight tastes less bitter. Carob Powder comes from the leguminous pods of the locust tree in the Mediterranean. Carob powder a healthier alternative to cocoa powder is made from roasted and ground carob pods. It is a very rich source of calcium and potassium and unlike cocoa is naturally sweet and contains no caffeine or oxalic acid.
I love chocolate delight (I add a little salt to it and it seems to cut the bitterness ) but I went to the health food store and bought some carob powder to try it. I did not like it all. Strange taste. Maybe I am not used to carob. Since I did not want to waste the batch (and had used almost all of my coconut oil) I remelted it, added some cocoa and a lttle more oil and some salt and it is a little better but still not as good as regular cocoa – to me.

I used the Charfield’s brand carob powder and it has 16 grams of sugar is that okay on P2?
I use Chatfield’s and the only ingredient is Roasted carob Powder. That’s it, no added sugars. It’s important that you look at ingredients as some sugar grams are from natural sugars which do not effect us like sugar unless over consumed.
Thanks Carol responding to my post! I am so glad I found your site on the web. You and your site have been so helpful with my journey to a better way of living. I had looked up the wrong ingredients list online for the sugar content and it does only have 3 grams of sugar and it’s all natural. But is it okay on P2 to have that? Thanks again!
Can you have Carob powder on Phase 2.
yes it is Carol’s favorite she recommends it over cocoa for better chocolate delight
Thanks Carol, Shawna & Jacob for all you do. I love this site, It is very helpful. I bought carob powder and made cocoa delight and it was so much better than when I made it with Hersheys Cocoa. I have to be careful I don’t eat too much of it, it taste so good!
Thanks Bridget! I always just make my allowed amount for the day in the
morning and snack on it all day so I do not over eat it! ♥

I have made 2 batches of chocolate delight.. 1st one was so bitter that I couldn’ stand it… 2nd one, we cut down the cocoa and it is still not worth eating…. used pkg of stevia and liquid stevia for 2nd batch… what can we do to get these to taste like everyone is saying… help…..
Have you tried the carab powder? You can just test it while making it and add more coconut oil to make it less bitter. It’s really an experiment for each one individual. Then when you get to P3 do my chocolate bits. they are awesome!
the carob powder has sugar in it, and I have made 3 batches of choclate delight aand each one is bitter I have decreased the cocoa each time but I would love to try the carob powder…do you know of a brand that doesn’t contain sugar?
